Whereas, John's work is a kind of digital photography, no camera is used. His revolutionary technique uses a high quality professional digital scanner with which he captures his flowers brought into his studio from his own gardens on Cape Cod. This method enables him to create images of incredible detail, usually only seen by a bee or a humming bird. John then uses his mouse like a paint brush he removes the pollen, dust and any defects . He then sourrounds his flowers with a black background by literally erasing everything that he doesn't want to see. The Black creates the light and floats the flowers in space. John then adds and takes away light and the intensity of colors until he has what he feels nature intended. The images have an almost three dimensional effect. The images shown here are necessarily smaller than the ones used to produce each glicee which tend to have in excess of 300 to 700 million pixels each..
The giclée limited editions of John Poignand are printed by John on his Epson 9800. Editions over 44 inches are printed by byHunter Editions , of Kennebunkport, Maine. Edition sizes are highly limited with the 40" width size limited to 15, 24 inch size limited to 25, and smaller sizes are limited to between 100 and 250.
Each print is numbered, signed by the author, and inscribed with the flower's name.
The Canvases are stretched, taped in matching black at the edges and require no frame. Floowing printing the canvases are treated with a UV sealant Spray making the images 99.9 UV resistant. Sizes provided are in widths of: 8',10", 24",36",40 and 50" by what ever size the flower forces. Variations of these sizes may be requested to fit a particular space. Canvas image may be framed using floater frames. Fine Art Paper images are provided unframed and unmatted or matted and framed. A variety of frames using UV glass areavailable.
The fine art paper images are printed on acid free fine art paper (230 gms weight) with a matt finish. This high quality art paper has been specially treated to retain the maximum amount of ink possible on the surface, thereby assuring fidelity of color and detail. It has also been chosen for the manner in which it works with Epson Inks. The Epson inks used are archival.
The method used to capture the image results in very large digital masters. As a result it is possible to create enlargements of the pictures to a framed size of 50" by 60" with no loss of definition. John's limited editions are at their best when requested on Canvas which has the benefit of not requiring Glass. These are guaranteed for 150 years and may be gently cleaned with a soft damp cloth to remove any dust..
Tiles and trivets of each image are available. The tiles are decorative while the trivets may be used as hot plates or cutting boards or simply as attractive serving plates for cheese and crackers.
